Makin' Poor Choices

i mean it's not like i can make wealthy choices lol

The term "egg" is a very useful term to for trans people to retroactively describe our past selves. It is also useful in the abstract sense, and having a shared language brings the community together.

The line should be drawn at using it to describe actively-questioning people.

If you're furloughed and need insulin, there's a group trying to arrange supplies at

THE PRINT COPIES OF β€œFTL, Y’ALL!” ARE HERE, and they look fantastic! I love how the soft metallic cover came out, and @skolli β€˜s art printed great! Can’t wait to dig into this later....

I’ll have these for sale at FC, ECCC and (if supplies last) TCAF, so make sure to nab one if you’re attending any of those events!

"Do your part" energy conservation plans, like turning lights off when you leave the room, are great for your energy bill, but their job as part of "lowering carbon footprints" is to deflect from the big corporations that actually use the vast majority of the power.

For example, the average US stand-alone home uses ~11,000 kWh per year.

The VERY MOST EFFICIENT roadside LED billboard uses ~61,000 kWh per year. That number rises to ~323,000 kWh at the top end.

Thinking about how the mid 2010s gave us both Eleanor Shellstrop and Rey, who represent a pretty wide spectrum of relatable outcomes that might result from growing up in a shitty desert without decent people in your life.

At @Arioch1530's urging, I sat down today and wrote a script that takes a #PixelArt image and turns it into a #CrossStitch pattern. It's got a long way to go before it's ready for a 1.0.0 release, but for images with a limited palette, it does the job okay. Check out Stitchify:

So my mom has been in the hospital, first with an exploding appendix, and now with blood clots in her intestines, bowel and leg.

One of the doctors who talked to mom said that there were some shadows in the xray of her chest and abdomen that would have to get checked out before she could go home.

I have seen this episode, y'all. It is an episode with cancer causing all of the emergent symptoms. I'm kinda freaking out.

The elixir bubbled delicately in a thimble.

"Is this going to be enough to cure the curse?"

"You're only a little cursed; so you don't need much."

"What happens if I drink more than this?"

"You would have no more misfortunes in your life."

"So why not give me extra?"

"I strongly urge against taking more than you need."

"But why?"

"You would actively siphon the good fortune of others."

"I don't see the problem."

"That is also why."

is a myth. Period. It's a lie popularized by capitalists who don't want to have to change their ways.

The problem is not that we have too many people; we as a species produce enough food in a year to feed the entire population several times over. The problem is that corporations would rather throw food away than give it to someone who hasn't paid for it. Food waste (corporate, not personal) is an enormous problem, and "overpopulation" is the myth they use to deflect from it.

what if the idea of β€œcousins,” but for being trans

like I want better language for communicating to someone, β€œyou and i clearly have something in common, and even if we don’t know exactly what it is, i bet we can still learn a lot from each other about how to handle it”

but without putting any kind of pressure behind the implied β€œand if at some point you decide you want to stick around this community, we’ll save a seat for you”

because I remember how skittish i was when i was just starting to think about gender stuff, and just the level of *ambient emotional support* and love and acceptance that came with being a New and Questioning Face in a Trans Space was almost enough to scare me away

LB: a calendar of Bad Dad Jokes. On the cover are two chickens:

"Why do chicken coops always have two doors?"
"I don't know. Why?"
"'cause if they had four, they would be a chicken sedan."

Last night I forgot to take my meds at 9 like I was supposed to, didn't take them until midnight, and then didn't fall asleep til 3 in the morning.

I'm helping a friend move today. I'm ... sure it will be fine ...

"why do you use surveillance capitalist sites?" is the "I don't even OWN a TV" of the 2010s, with all the snide condescension it implies :no_at:

Fandom proponents are looking to create a social website of our own, but need a few folks doing research in machine learning or distributed systems. If you know of anyone could you pass along their info? Or comment over here:

Below the thunders of the upper deep,
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides; above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous and secret cell
Unnumber'd and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the lumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages, and will lie
Battening upon huge sea-worms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.
β€” "The Kraken" by Alfred Lord Tennyson, 1830
