throwback to the beautiful octopus (Graneledone boreopacifica) that was seen at 1164 m depth on the Davidson (Pierce) Seamount in the SGaan Kinghlas-Bowie Protected Area during E/V Nautilus dives earlier this year. It didn’t move very much for the entirety of the visit to the area, which led researchers to believe this octo might be brooding. It was an enchanting sight to watch this octopus respirate at the bottom of the Northeast Pacific Ocean from a computer in Philly

@snailix 26 days til my leg of the cruise 😭🤯😁😍🤗🦑🐚🌊🤭

ps you can follow along live w dives at

it’s a mapping leg right now so no live dive video, but live dives will continue in just a few days!!!

Picked up a disc last night... "What the hell is this?" Didn't recognize it 29 years. Popped it in. Started it. Remembered all the lyrics.

My goodness at the Twitter folks finding me on here. I guess I need to do a better job of hiding. 😂

Digitizing my music library has been a rather calming endeavour. I stress more about not finding decent album art than I do the process of getting it to the computer.

Coming across old memories over the past 30 years. (Or longer if I were digitizing my LPs and/or
for whatever reason, cassettes)

Hey, Webex, stop randomly taking focus away from the program I have in the foreground!

Gym membership obtained.

Company has an agreement with a gym. Not passing up the basically half off membership. Now, back to being more active.

And as an instance admin, it’s kind of important to me that people know I won’t just roll over and tell people to ‘ignore and block’ because I’m afraid of the response.

I’m not afraid of bigots. I’ve gotten into physical altercations because I won’t relent to bigots and racists.

PV is not a place that just ignores bigotry and hate and hope it goes away.

I want everyone who is a part of my instance or thiking about it to know I don’t play cute with people who want to harm us.

I guess FB's tactic to try to get me to login more often is to send me emails: "X posted an update."

That's nice. <delete>

I deleted the app from my phone & stopped reading my feed daily. It has reduced the amount of unnecessary stress.

Watching people I considered friends not having basic empathy for fellow human beings ON ANY LEVEL is just on my list of enjoyables. I won't delete my account as to still be able to occasionally chat with folks. FB just doesn't own my eyeballs.

I woke up with “Dust in the Wind” rolling around in my head. Does that mean I am going to have a good day or a bad one?

TFW you accidentally hit a key in vim and find a useful command (in this case it was `(`, which moves between sentences).

Oh, how I've missed the cardamom and cinnamon in my coffee! ☕

Well, the men's World Cup is over. Thankfully, the Women's World Cup is next year.

I enjoyed the 2015 WWC more than I've enjoyed any of the MWC since I started watching in 2010. I barely even knew of the WWC. I wish I had watched the 2011.

It was my company's Family Day at Canada's Wonderland. It was definitely family time for us. It was a great time.

I've taken a hiatus from FB, and have been off it for about 2 weeks, and that's been really nice. I do miss the good banter between friends. I don't miss much of the rest.

Twitter doesn't cause me as much stress, so I haven't stopped looking at it and interacting with people. I think I follow a lot more positive people.

Obviously, those are completely different atmospheres than here.

It's official. We have roller-coaster kids. The pure excitement and joy of my son reminds me of the same moment we had with my daughter when she was 2 and rode a carousel for the first time. Both were absolutely glorious.

Ok. I hope I got it right this time. I really wanted only to make the image sensitive, but after 3 delete & redrafts, I gave up.

🦑 ☕️ Squid Cafe

Below the thunders of the upper deep,
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides; above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous and secret cell
Unnumber'd and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the lumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages, and will lie
Battening upon huge sea-worms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.
— "The Kraken" by Alfred Lord Tennyson, 1830

This is Squid Café, a special (to me) Mastodon instance.

It is not focused on any particular niche interest, however, I am a fountain pen user/collector, hence the semi-related "squid" name. (Squid. Ink. Get it?) Also... Cephalopods. Analog/digital photography, science. It’s all good. Everyone is welcome as long as you follow the code of conduct.

Bow to your cephalopod overloards!
