Landing robots on Mars is wild. Something they mention in passing is that the flying saucer landing capsule uses itself as an airplane wing to steer to the landing site (at least Curiosity did this, doing little S curves to adjust distance)

My last act of 2020 was finishing the music video I shot four years ago

I BUILT MY FIRST KEYBOARD!! It's been in progress for most of the year but it exists now and brightens my workspace

It's reached that part of the night where I'm checking wire colors against black and white pictures

I finally figured out the toolsets needed to get sonar bathymetry into Blender!! With proper georeferencing so it can be combined with things like ROV nav data!!!

Today I'm learning how to repair an alternator. Just for fun and, uh, no other reason

I even have a real desk at this point in life! (Not pictured because my living room is 10 degrees cooler than my intended office)

I feel like my body doesn't work the way it did 7 years ago and working all day from a folding chair is no longer optimal

If I record violins in the Blanket Fort! maybe they'll sound better

I love that you can put pretty much anything in a pot of water and call it "soup"

I've reached the "writing tinder messages in iambic pentameter" stage of the Social Distance

Turning 30 while self quarantining and keeping a nervous eye on the rise of fascism and increasing effects of climate change is my 2020 mood

But The gist was treat your fever with over the counter meds and drink lots of water

(of course, don't listen to me. look up good practices)

I also remember a good thread about what to do if you get sick and aren't hospitalized, which many of us can expect to be, but poster had to had to protect their account (yay birdsite)

b) Social distancing fucking works, and can stop something like The Coronavirus in its tracks

Main points are: a) Because of the 4-14 day incubation time, numbers of confirmed cases are about a week behind actual cases, so any timely response will look like overreacting.

(Even more so with lack of testing in the US)

This post has lots of good views of COVID-19 data, as helpful context for viewing current info medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronav

Below the thunders of the upper deep,
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides; above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous and secret cell
Unnumber'd and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the lumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages, and will lie
Battening upon huge sea-worms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.
— "The Kraken" by Alfred Lord Tennyson, 1830
